SDC Brand

Sabrina Dias was my first ever official freelance project outside of school. A friend of mine referred me to her, so Sabrina and I met over coffee to discuss expanding her business by refining her brand. She explained the details of her services to me which are to focus on sustainable development and building solutions for corporate social responsibilities.

I began doing plenty of research into sustainable development within the mining industry. I looked at how current consulting companies presented themselves to discover any visual opportunities we could take with SDC's brand. During my search, I started sketching concepts of how her brand identity might come to be. From the drawings, I filtered a few directions for Sabrina and I to discuss.

Sustainability Development Definition that reads "The organizing principle for meeting human development goals while simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services based upon which the economy and society depend." Initial rough sketches for brand and logo ideas

I gathered her initial responses and thoughts, which led to a round of exhaustive ideation. I choose a few of the ideas to refine into designs with stationery examples. Sabrina and I agreed on the option that we thought would work best for her. From there, we finalized our choice to begin developing a brand.

SDC's approach builds informative and thorough advice. Sabrina and her team keep a forward-thinking attitude and always seek windows of opportunity. The brand identity had to fit within a corporate setting, so it is fairly rigid and modern. We decided the wordmark would highlight her name, while the monogram can supplement the full identity for smaller applications.

We also made sure there was enough personality introduced into the brand so that it reflects Sabrina as a person. Many elements came into effect when creating this brand to help differentiate it from the competition. As Sabrina has gained clients and projects throughout the years, we have worked together on many of them, from building reports to designing branding for other sustainability-focused companies.
